UKSHA formed in 1970 and is currently made up of three small boarding house style cooperatives run by students in Lawrence, Kansas.  Housing cooperatives have a rich history in Lawrence and have played a role in the social and political environment of the city often linking students to the broader community of Lawrence and cooperatives around the world.
