The Mission of the Creative Empowerment Cooperative is: To honor and encourage those committed to social justice, to harness the synergy of creativity and activism, and to responsibly support community-driven development.

CEC will:

• Provide a residency experience for social justice luminaries with opportunities for rest, revitalization, and innovation
• Build human capacity by hiring locally and providing staff with ongoing needs assessment, and personal and career development support
• Help local residents acquire the expertise and physical capital necessary to achieve their community priorities.

CEC guests, wellness personnel, and local staff will work cooperatively, and will collaborate regularly with residents on local projects.

The CEC Vison in Brief:

The Creative Empowerment Cooperative is a place of both rest and innovation. It is a beautiful, peaceful sanctuary for those seeking sabbatical to evolve themselves as creators and re-envision their social justice work. CEC is also a resource facility to help local staff and nearby communities attain their priorities for sustainable, dignified, self-managed development. CEC is a cooperative on three levels: staff self-government, guest – staff collaboration and mentorship, and guest – staff – community teamwork on local projects. As such, CEC is a multi-stakeholder, type B social cooperative that is service rather than product oriented. Guests participate in the cooperative aspects of CEC on their own terms, and only after the first phase of their residencies.
