I am a founding member of The Underground Cafe & Alternative Bookstore, a worker co-operative that opened a cafe and alternative bookstore in the Fredericton Arts and Learning Center, Fredericton, NB, Canada. The café was a collective organization that aimed to create a community space in Fredericton safe for everyone and free from discrimination. The café recently changed ownership and is now a sole-proprietorship. I left the café in 2006 and completed my undergraduate sociology honours degree at St Thomas University, Fredericton. I completed my thesis on cooperative organizations in May; a case study of the Underground Café in Fredericton that sought to investigate the difficult balance cooperative organizations must strike between economic organization and social movement.
