This year's Institute, In Our Backyards: Defending the Environmental Commons, will focus on the current role and the future of cooperatives in the environmental justice movement.
We are seeking proposals for sessions that will educate and engage our cooperative community in exploring the following questions:
- What role do cooperatives play in supporting environmental justice work?
- What are some effective ways to reduce the ecological impact of housing cooperatives?
- How are issues around labor, food, water, land, borders, disaster, youth, gender, and the economy interrrelated within the North American environmental justice movement?
- How do we confront "greenwashing" and hold corporations and policymakers accountable for truly addressing environmental concerns?
- How are indigenous communities, communities of color, and low-income communities organizing for environmental justice?
- How do these topics fit into the larger internaional struggle against globalization and economic colonialism?
We're also seeking sessions in the following categories:
