This year, NASCO is proud to partner with the Highlander Research & Education Center and the Anti-Oppression Resource & Training Alliance (AORTA) to offer two all-day anti-oppression and popular education trainings at sliding-scale fees. Cooperative leaders will have the opportunity to build an analysis of power, privilege, and oppression as it operates in their co-ops and communities, take away popular education training tools and techniques, and share ideas for creating inclusive and accessible spaces in co-ops.
Participants may elect to participate in one of two tracks:
1. Mapping Oppression, Charting Resistance
kiran nigam Anti-Oppression Resource Training Alliance (AORTA)
Lydia Pelot-Hobbs AORTA, Left Turn, NASCO Education Board
In this interactive training, we will map the roots of oppression that are at work in our daily interactions in our communities so that we can better understand how to transform our homes, workplaces and organizations. Participants will develop analysis about how white supremacy, patriarchy, classism and other systems of oppression manifest within their cooperatives at individual, institutional, and cultural levels. We will also share facilitation tips for the mapping tools and activities we use. Participants will workshop possibilities for implementing plans at their own co-ops and in the broad cooperative movement with the goal of finding new ways of integrating justice across the cooperative movement.
2. "Training Trainers" - Popular Education Facilitation Tools
Elandria Williams Highlander Research & Education Center
Jason Lydon (bio coming soon)
This training is geared toward people who have considerable background in anti-oppression analysis and topics, and are interested in learning interactive and fun popular education tools for facilitating trainings and dialogues. The trainers will take workshop participants through troubleshooting techniques for facilitation and many popular education activities for implementing in your own co-ops and communities.
This incredible training opportunity is not to be missed!
