NASCO views the US Social Forum (USSF) as a critical opportunity to grow the cooperative movement, share the cooperative model, network with other movement-builders, and collaborate across borders and issues. The commitment and work are flexible depending on the community organizer's interest, background, and availability. NASCO staff will work with the intern to develop a work plan and goals.
The Community Organizer will be primarily responsible for the following.:
- Mobilize NASCO's members to attend the USSF and register as members of NASCO
- Increase NASCO's online presence through facebook, twitter, and other social networking tools
- Put on grassroots fundraising events to cover costs associated with USSF presence.
- Research and design merchandise (t-shirts, temporary tattoos, etc) to promote NASCO & co-ops
- Create materials that promote cooperative movement workshops at the USSF
Other potential Community Organizer projects include:
- Help coordinate engaging programming in canopy space at the USSF
- Develop visual displays to educate people about co-ops & NASCO
- Help develop and design materials (brochures, fact sheets, & fliers) for NASCO
- Help identify potential NASCO allies at the USSF (NASCO Institute presenters, potential trainers, board members, funders etc)
- Expand NASCO's educational resources by gathering workshop materials at the USSF
- Write a report-back article about the USSF for Co-op Voices
- Coordinate documentation of cooperative movement at the USSF
- Participate in NASCO's post-USSF evaluation and action planning
