Outreach and Development Coordinator

20 hrs/wk @ $15/hr

  Workers Independent News is a dynamic, growing media organization committed to amplifying the voices of working people in the media. We are looking for 2 creative individuals to join our new Wisconsin-based project: Forward! News Network. The 2 new staff will work closely together to run the project. These positions are based in Madison, WI. Forward! News Network places community activists and working people at the center of community journalism, providing them the tools and technical support to produce high-quality, independent, community-centered news: the kind of news ignored by corporate media.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage Forward! News Network development program including online fundraising, writing grants, and meeting with large donors.
  • Meet with community groups and unions across Wisconsin to encourage participation
  • Develop outreach materials
  • Recruit community activists and working people for media trainings
  • Manage administrative duties relating to the project including budget oversight

Qualifications:

  • At least 2 years community organizing experience
  • Experience working with workers and labor
  • Experience in media reform/ media justice issues
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience in online fundraising and large donor development
  • Experience in creating and managing project budgets
