Working Cooperatively
NASCO staff works collaboratively and with a great deal of inter-dependence. The programming work in the areas of Education, Asset Management, and Development are carried out by dedicated teams of two or three staff who, working together, manage operations in these particular program areas. In the same way, each staff member participates in the Administrative Team, which facilitates staff meetings and retreats, coordinates time and resource allocation, monitors financial management, and ensures efficient communication between staff, boards, and NASCO membership.
Interns and non-salaried staff are also encouraged, though not required, to participate in monthly staff and team meetings and retreats. Although interns and non-salaried staff can participate in decision making and reporting, they are not be compensated for their time spent in non-mandatory meetings. Meeting participation is viewed as an educational and skill-building opportunity for these staff members - where agency and empowerment within the group may be gained in place of monetary compensation.
