Voting Process

NASCO is in the middle of its Spring elections!  Nominations are now closed, and there are seven candidates vying for six seats on the Board.  Active member coops, and individual and associate members of NASCO will have until April 24 to cast their ballots.

Elections 2012 Timeline

March 20th         Nominations due, candidate statements due
March 27            Ballots mailed to members
April 24               Ballots due from members
April 30               Results announced

For Active Member Cooperatives

  • Ballots are allocated on the basis of one ballot for every five members of your co-op. All fractions are rounded up. For example, if your co-op has 200 members, your co-op receives 40 ballots.
  • There are 6 board seats open at this time. Your co-op can cast votes equal to your number of ballots multiplied by the number of seats open. For example, a co-op with 40 ballots will receive 6 times 40 ballots or 240 votes in total.

NASCO uses a cumulative voting procedure. This means you may cast all of your ballots for one candidate or split your votes in any way you choose.

Each co-op determines its own method for allocating ballots, whether through Board decision, delegation to a person of a committee, or through a membership input system. NASCO must be given a written report of your co-op's vote on the NASCO Member Ballot form. The form may be mailed or faxed to the NASCO office at 773.404.2668.

For Individual Members of NASCO:

  • Since there are 6 open seats this year, you may cast up to 6 votes.
  • You may cast all of your votes for one candidate or split them among the candidates, as you prefer.

NASCO must be given a written report of your vote on the NASCO Member Ballot form. The form may be mailed or faxed to the NASCO office at 773.404.2668.

For Associate Members of NASCO

  • For associate members, ballots are allocated on the basis of one ballot for every $50 of member dues that is paid to NASCO on an annual basis. All fractions have been rounded up.
  • There are 6 board seats open at this time. Your co-op can cast votes equal to your number of ballots multiplied by the number of seats open. For example, a co-op that pays NASCO $500/year will receive 10 ballots times 6 seats = 60 votes in total.)

To simplify voting, NASCO uses a cumulative voting procedure. This means you may cast all of your ballots for one candidate or split your votes in any way you choose.

NASCO must be given a written report of your co-op's vote on the Ballot Form. The form may be mailed or faxed to the NASCO office at 773.404.2668.
