SENIOR DIRECTOR OF OPERATIONS 

Resource Generation is recruiting for a Senior Director of Operations position. 

About us:

Resource Generation is a national, multi-racial, membership-based organization mobilizing young people (age 18-35) with wealth and class privilege in the U.S. to become transformative leaders working towards equitable wealth, land, and power. The broader Resource Generation community includes people of all ages and class backgrounds who support young people with wealth’s role in social change. RG has 18 chapters in cities around the U.S., and our chapters engage in base-building, political education programming, giving circles, engaging in local and national campaigns, and building local organizational relationships. Resource Generation is proud to have 1100+ dues-paying members who collectively made over $100 million in pledges to social justice movements in 2023. RG is 95% funded by our members. 

Resource Generation operates on a 32-hour workweek schedule (generally Monday-Thursday). We currently have 22 full-time staff and are a multi-class and multiracial team. Overview of role:

RG seeks an experienced professional with high skill and energy to build organizational systems and join our team as Senior Director of Operations. The ideal candidate should have a robust background in supervising nonprofits, finance, and operations management. This position will primarily involve operations-focused tasks, accounting for 75% of the responsibilities, while the remaining 25% will be focused on the team as a whole. The primary responsibilities of this role would be to steward the leadership of the Operations team, manage the organization’s finance, operations, and human resources functions, ensure compliance with legal and financial requirements necessary for 501c3 compliance, and help foster a people-centered organizational culture.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, project manage, and implement operations strategies (i.e., HRIS and payment processing software). Delegate effectively to achieve organizational goals. 
  • Supervise a four-person team of mid and director-level staff, ensuring positive performance outcomes and professional development.
  • Translate complex finance and legal concepts into understandable language to support collaborative budgeting.
  • Support the Human Resources Manager and the Director of People and Culture in developing equitable policies and benefits and creating performance evaluation best practices. 
  • Mitigate legal and financial risks utilizing the expertise of legal consultants and professionals. 
  • Evaluate the fiscal performance of the organization. Direct finance and legal compliance initiatives, including auditing and reviewing payment process systems.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director to manage the Board of Directors, including attending board meetings and building relationships with board members to cultivate the organization’s financial health. 
  • Standardize the use of all-staff digital tools for project management, performance evaluation, and budgetary concerns.

Core qualifications and required skills:

  • At least four years of supervision experience in non-profit operations and finance with a strong understanding of non-profit compliance.
  • A leadership development orientation to team leadership and supervision.
  • Proven capacity to manage large projects involving multiple stakeholders with differing levels of involvement. 
  • Experience in equitable and inclusive practices demonstrated ability to recognize and address biases in hiring and promotion processes and experience building equitable feedback, evaluation, and performance processes.
  • Experience working with and proficiency in digital tools such as Google Suite, Slack, Asana, and Zoom, as well as utilizing a CRM such as EveryAction/NGPVan.

Our ideal candidate would have:

  • Previous experience in fundraising or working at a fundraising organization.
  • Previous experience in a movement organization and/or a membership organization.
  • Previous experience with organizations with budgets of $3-10 Million.
  • Familiarity with healing justice and a commitment to personal transformation and healing from oppressive systems.

Education and Experience:

The ideal candidate should have at least four years of direct supervisory experience and should have previously held non-profit finance and operations roles. Additionally, they should have experience working with a board of directors on finance-related matters. Please note that a college degree is not required for this position.

Compensation, Benefits, and the Application Process:

Salary: This is a full-time position with a starting salary of $69,000-$84,000, depending on experience and regional cost of living. Note that the top end of our range would be someone who brings many years of experience to the role and lives in a city with a very high cost of living, like NYC or the California Bay Area.

Benefits: RG offers excellent benefits, including 100% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance and 90% employer-paid health, vision, and dental insurance for partners, spouses, and families. We offer 100% employer-paid short-term and long-term disability and life insurance; medical and transit flexible spending account with a $500 employer contribution; 403(b) retirement plan with a 5% employer contribution after one year of employment, parental leave (up to six months within the first year after birth, adoption, or fostering), as well as an eight-week paid sabbatical after four years of employment. RG also offers 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, five personal days, and a minimum of one-week office closure in late December. RG provides professional development funds, initial home office tech set-up of up to $500 (shipment of desktop, laptop), and a monthly home office /co-working allowance of up to $200.

Location & Travel: This is a remote position. Up to 30 days a year of travel is required to attend national retreats and conferences. The Senior Director of Operations can work remotely from anywhere in the continental US and is expected to be available Monday-Thursday between the hours of 12-5 pm EST to accommodate staff across time zones.

Staff Culture: RG is grounded in feminist and social justice principles. We engage in monthly identity-based caucuses and bi-monthly political education sessions. RG is a highly dynamic and fast-paced organization. Our working culture is highly collaborative and we spend a considerable amount of time goal setting and work planning to ensure staff are empowered and supported to be successful in their positions. Staff collaborate to support hiring processes, annual budgeting, and event programming. We engage in group wellness practices every quarter, and support one another to work against a culture of overwork. We recognize that paid work is only one aspect of our lives and encourage each other to take breaks and paid time off.
