Time Commitment: Full-time Salaried Position (32 hours per week).
Application Deadline: September 20, 2021
Start Date:
Ideal start date is Fall 2021.

WHO IS NEC?

New Economy Coalition (NEC) is building the power and scale of the solidarity economy movement in the United States. Our national network of 200+ members are transforming the current system — creating in its place an economy that places power in the hands of people, uproots legacies of harm, and preserves the planet. Our members represent a diverse cross-section of the solidarity economy movement, from worker cooperative developers and technical assistance providers, to community loan funds and policy advocates.

NEC is a fully remote organization. In a typical year, we expect staff to travel within the United States several times a year to staff retreats, conferences, and donor visits. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we are not currently traveling and are convening all programs virtually.

SUMMARY

NEC is seeking a full-time Director of Donor Organizing (DDO) to join its Resource Development team. The ideal candidate will have a deep commitment to racial, economic, and environmental justice, and will have skill sets at the intersections of individual giving, community organizing, fundraising, and communications.

The DDO’s main objective is to grow a cross-class, multi-racial network of people moving resources towards the solidarity economy movement. Primary responsibilities are two-fold:

  1. Guide the operations, growth, & development of NEC’s individual giving efforts: Key efforts include annual campaigns, relationship-building, and stewardship.
  2. Guide the operations, growth & development of NEC’s re-granting efforts: The Movement Support Fund is NEC’s primary vehicle through which we redistribute resources to working-class communities of color building the solidarity economy movement. In 2020, we launched the Black Solidarity Economy Fund

Additional key roles include managing gift processing, donor acknowledgment, and maintaining donor records in our database.

NEC is shifting our structure from a traditional top-down nonprofit to a worker self-directed nonprofit model. As a member of a worker self-directed nonprofit, the Director of Donor Organizing is a member of the staff General Circle, which oversees the management of the organization. As we shift towards a worker self-directed nonprofit model, we are experimenting with peer supervision (rather than a traditional supervisor-supervisee relationship) as our approach to support, accountability, and decision-making.

Within this context of shared decision-making, the DDO will hold responsibilities that range between an “Individual Giving Manager” or “Development Director” in other organizations. At NEC, these responsibilities fall under a wider objective of donor organizing; the work of growing a politically-activated, cross-class, multi-racial base to resource the solidarity economy movement.

This is a full-time (32 hrs/week), salaried position, and can be performed remotely from anywhere in the U.S. Our work is rigorous, but we prioritize space for joy, for healing, and for connection. The ideal candidate will contribute to the creation of a liberatory work culture in which folks can bring their whole selves to the work.
