The Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) is an 85 year-old student-governed and operated non-profit affordable housing cooperative near the University of California at Berkeley.  The BSC houses approximately 1280 students in 17 room-and-board houses and 3 apartment complexes. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager is responsible for the successful and efficient day-to-day operations and financial management of Cloyne Court.  Specific duties include, but are not limited to, checking members in & out of the house; responding to and resolving members’ requests and concerns; maintaining financial records; ensuring that maintenance, safety, and habitability standards are maintained; enforcing contract provisions and house rules; supporting the development of educational and social programming; working with the house Council to support democratic decision-making and member engagement; and working closely with BSC central-level staff to secure resources for the house, apply BSC policies, and help pursue strategic objectives.  The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager plays an integral role in the training, support, leadership development, and supervision of a variety of student house-level managers carrying out various specialized functions (e.g. Academic & Substance Free Theme, Food, House, Kitchen, Maintenance, Social, Workshift, etc.).  The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager must carry an emergency phone and be on-call for emergencies; some evening and weekend work is also required.            

The Cloyne Resident & Facilities Manager also acts as a resource for information, assistance, and advice for other BSC house-level managers, Board-level committees, and completes other duties and projects, as assigned by the Cooperative Experience Manager.

 

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Applicants must have a four-year college degree and at least one year of residential management experience.  Previous supervisory experience managing multiple staff (and preferably student employees) is required.  Applicants must be familiar with and have the ability to appropriately respond to the many and complex issues faced by college students (e.g. mental health, substance use/abuse, consent and sexual harassment/assault, and other identity, health, and wellness issues).  They should also be familiar with and have the ability to support and provide resources to students with a wide range of disabilities.  Knowledge of student housing best practices, student leadership development, cooperatives, the cooperative movement, and/or the BSC are preferred

The successful candidate will have excellent management/supervisory skills, strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills; conflict resolution skills, the ability to work with sensitive information and maintain confidentiality; excellent attention to detail; the ability to work independently and prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced residential/office environment; excellent problem-solving/trouble-shooting skills; the ability to analyze problems, gather and evaluate data and develop recommendations for improvement; intermediate computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Google suite applications; and the desire and ability to work with a diverse array of professional staff and students in a student-run, cooperative living and working environment.

 

COMPENSATION: 

This is a full-time, exempt position that requires the manager to live on-site in a private apartment at Cloyne Court.  Compensation includes an annual starting salary of $46,970 in addition to free room and board.  The BSC also offers a generous benefits package, which provides for annual cost-of-living pay increases, annual performance-based raises and/or bonuses, paid health and dental insurance for employee and dependents, paid holidays, vacation and sick leave, long-term disability and life insurance, and a generous retirement benefits program (after two years).  We are seeking a candidate that can begin by mid-to-late July.  A minimum two-year commitment is preferred.
