Qumbya Housing Cooperative, a 501c3 non-profit organization, is an affordable, community-oriented, group-equity housing cooperative on the South Side of Chicago. Qumbya currently comprises about 70 members in four Houses: Bowers, Concord, Haymarket, & Wells.
With guidance and support from Qumbya staff and board members, the successful candidate will be asked to asses the creative needs of the organization and create a timeline for what can be accomplished during the internship.
The intern will work with staff and board members to translate organizational goals into a marketing and design campaign to better facilitate communication between the community and Qumbya and to provide easily accessible information to potential members. Projects might include designing marketing materials like Qumbya logo, flyers, and website design.
The intern will also work with each of Qumbya’s four houses to asses their creative needs and form house specific creative plans. Projects might include posters to display house community agreements, cooperative principles, house processes, and membership flyers.
The intern will receive a personal orientation to Qumbya, including attending house and board meetings. Additionally, the intern will be invited to participate in any trainings or workshops offered to the Qumbya membership during the time of their stay.
The graphic design intern will gain hands-on experience working in a non-profit as well as democratic decision making. The intern will also gain experience in project management, marketing, and enhance their personal portfolio.
