Identity Based Caucuses

Caucuses are spaces for participants with shared identities to raise issues, build connections, and organize for change within NASCO, their own co-ops, and our broader communities. These are member-led spaces for participants to guide the discussion as they see fit.

This year, caucuses will meet via Zoom in the month leading up to Institute. Each caucus will elect representatives and bring proposals to the Collective Liberation Congress, which will be held in person on Saturday, November 15th, from 12:45–2:15 PM Eastern (lunch provided). For those who wish to connect socially during Institute, “guerrilla workshop” spaces will also be available for informal in-person gatherings, including during Friday’s pre-conference programming.

Identity-based caucuses are not spaces for people who do not share an identity to learn about issues affecting that group or offer their support (i.e. “be an ally”). We encourage those folks to attend one of the workshops on these topics instead.

The following caucuses will be included in the online schedule this year:

  • People of Color Caucus

  • Accessibility Caucus

  • Women’s Caucus

  • Working Class Caucus

  • Native Peoples Caucus

  • Black Caucus

  • LGBTQIA2S+ Caucus

Why Isn't There a Caucus for X Identity?

Would you like to attend a caucus that isn’t listed above? Organize one! Participants are welcome to reserve a Guerrilla Workshop room available throughout the weekend of Institute for any caucus they’d like to hold. However, only the caucuses listed in the schedule above are currently able to make appointments to the Collective Liberation Congress.
