MCC strives to improve the Madison community by providing low-cost, not-for-profit cooperative housing for very low- to moderate-income* people and to be inclusive of underrepresented and marginalized groups.
We own and operate 11 cooperative houses in Madison, serving between 175 and 200 members at any time. Our housing is open to anyone, though most of our houses are located in close proximity to campus.
MCC has had an eventful year, with a major fire at our largest house and several potential development projects in the pipeline. We are seeking an intern who can handle various responsibilities and projects as they arise.
On a regular basis, the summer intern will help with processing membership contracts, write for our newsletter and website, assist houses with meeting facilitation, help plan our member orientations, and support our office and archives.
Larger projects will potentially include helping with advertising and selection of members for co-ops that are just starting up, working with new or re-opened houses on policies and procedures, bringing MCC’s communications into the 21st century with more digital media, and/or training and education for members.
The intern will receive training in our office procedures, and will attend a member orientation in order to learn more about MCC’s function. Training in our website (using Drupal) will be provided as well.
The intern will gain the experience of working in a fast-paced environment. They will develop administrative skills, computer-based skills, and a lot of communication experience and skill. They will become familiar with co-op management and larger co-op systems.
