Interdependence as Resistance
This year’s NASCO Institute theme is Interdependence as Resistance. As the dominant systems in the West require individualism to operate, co-opers resist through the daily practices of labor distribution, collective decision making, shared cost of living, cooking for one another, and so many other forms of resistance. As the need for mutual aid & direct action rises across the globe, how can co-opers continue learning while weaving our established ways of interdependence into our larger communities and movement spaces?
At Institute, we will explore what it means to build—from housing to networks to policy—while confronting the ever-mounting systemic forces working against us. Through skill-building workshops, collaborative discussions, and storytelling, we’ll grapple with the collapse of unsustainable systems and share strategies for growing sustainable alternatives. We’ll connect the act of building with the cooperative values of equity, democracy, and mutual aid, emphasizing the transformative power of collective action in times of crisis. Together, we’ll explore the parallels between dismantling systems of inequity and growing alternatives rooted in these values.
Join us to strengthen our movement, sharpen our strategies, and build cooperative solutions to the challenges of today.
