Summary: 

Responsible for: The Cooperative Experience Coordinator is responsible for managing and supporting members from initial contact to move out. This person will oversee contract signing and member records as well as coordinating member events, and greeting members at the front office.  The Membership Director will maintain member files, monitor occupancy levels, and oversee data related to loan compliance and charitable status.

  • Member Well-being
    • Hold regular trainings or discussions for members  on the policies set by the Board of Directors and the members of the organization and the resources the Co-op has available for members
    • Provide information regarding available resources in the Austin, TX community to assist members with their wellness (physical, emotional, and mental) 
    • Work with outside agencies to provide free and affordable support and services to members. The Cooperative Experience Coordinator will not be responsible for providing individual counseling or therapy services to members of College Houses
    • Provide excellent service and potential solutions to members in handling sensitive issues
    • Conduct confidential meetings with members regarding matters that may impact their safe and healthy participation or residence in the co-op or ability to participate in school
    • Develop, coordinate, and implement educational programming about wellness (physical, emotional, and mental) throughout the College Houses organization
    • Offer mentoring and suggestions to members through the Incident Reporting process
    • Develop and provide crisis intervention strategies and resolution to conflict to improve the overall member experience
    • Intervene on behalf of any member whose immediate personal concerns or problems put themselves or other members at risk
    • Promote the overall well-being of members through consistent engagement
  • House Coordination, Training, and Support
    • Develop a member engagement plan and calendar, and contribute material to the outreach calendar created by the Membership Coordinator
    • Train members on accessing systems for internal messaging, reporting, and resources at the house and Co-op level
    • Ensure training regarding member safety and code compliance at each of the Houses
    • Coordinate with House officers and College Houses staff to ensure training materials are up to date and used correctly in each House
    • Train, assist, and support Labor Coordinators, Menu Planners & Food Buyers, and Membership Coordinators.. This includes providing feedback and guidance when needed
    • Ensure training for house officers on proper techniques for conflict resolution and mediation of disagreements that sometimes can occur between members of the Houses
    • Support MemCos with what they may need to achieve their day-to-day responsibilities
    • Facilitate meetings with members, College Houses staff, and House officers as needed
    • Develop awareness initiatives to promote College Houses and the cooperative model
  • Administrative Duties
    • Print and distribute the New Member Guide for New Member Orientation and training materials for Officer Orientation
    • Coordinate emergency services with universities, emergency responders, family members, and other emergency contacts
    • Serve in an on-call capacity to support the Executive Director during emergency response situations (may occur during evenings, weekends, and holidays)
    • Transitioning members to alumni status when they move out of the co-op
    • Create and maintain reporting on College Houses impact on housing stability, on personal growth, on educational outcomes, and on professional or civic engagement
    • Supervise and support the summer hosteling program and the Hosteling Coordinator
    • Handle sensitive membership issues in coordination with the Executive Director
    • Assist Executive Director in risk management and matters that involve attorneys
    • Create and distribute monthly member newsletter, as well as other member-centered communications, as needed
    • Staff support for the Engagement committee of the College Houses Board of Directors
    • Bi-weekly production and distribution of agendas, meeting minutes, and materials.
  • Resource
    • Serve as a neutral mediating influence for members (including officers) at each of the Co-Op Houses when disagreements may occur
    • Preparation of reports, research, policy drafting, and recommendations, as needed
    • Create educational opportunities for members to grow and develop
    • Engage with staff at peer cooperatives and cooperative associations beyond Austin to gather best practices on member satisfaction, retention, and participation, and reducing vacancies
    • Work with members paired to the position through office hours
  • Staff Support
    • Coordinate with the Executive Director and Board of Directors for special projects
    • Act as staff support at networking events involving College Houses members and alumni
    • Facilitate a welcoming atmosphere for members, officers, and staff
    • General reception in the absence of front desk coverage: walk-ins, phone calls, payment processing, package notifications, and information requests
    • Work as part of a team of professionals supporting co-op members and facilitating the success of the organization
    • Other duties as assigned

College Houses offer a competitive benefits package including full medical and dental insurance, a retirement plan, paid vacation, sick leave, and holidays. The salary for this position is $59,000.
