Summary: 

The Cooperative Experience Manager (CxM) plays a pivotal role in building and maintaining a healthy and positive living environment within the Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC).

Organization Description

The BSC is a student-owned and run student housing cooperative. It owns and operates 20 properties housing~1300 members. This position, in close collaboration with member leaders and other staff, plans and directs strategic initiatives that support the growth and development of BSC members. The CxM also oversees various programs, including member health and safety, anti-oppression, emergency preparedness, conflict mediation, and processing and review of conduct complaints. The CxM supervises 4 full-time staff.

General Job Description

The CxM supports the member-run Board of Directors by attending meetings, providing institutional knowledge, and collaborating on policy development, and departmental reporting. They serve as the primary coordinator for professional staff oversight of member managers, ensuring effective communication and support.

This position strives to provide effective services and programs to BSC members that are responsive to their needs. The CxM works across departments and leads continuous program evaluation processes, gathering and incorporating feedback from all BSC stakeholders.

The CxM oversees training and support for member leaders. Within the context of the conduct process, this position ensures compliance with fair housing law while ensuring BSC units are safe for all members.

The CxM plays a leading role in promoting empowerment, safety, wellness, and comfort in the BSC community.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess excellent leadership, communication, and conflict mediation skills. Candidates must be able and willing to work in a fast-paced environment in relation with and supporting young adults around the clock with:

● mental health

● addiction & substance abuse

● sexual harassment

● interpersonal conflicts

A bachelor's degree and at least four years of relevant experience are required. Familiarity with working with young adults 18-25yo, student housing cooperatives, and living within close proximity to Berkeley, CA is preferred. Needs to be able to communicate effectively and be in relationship with diverse populations.  Experience with correctional facilities or programs is NOT preferred.

 

Compensation and Benefits

This is a full-time salaried (exempt) position, with compensation based on prior experience and skill level. The starting salary range is from $98,321.60 to $103,251.20 annually. Benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance for employee and dependents, paid holidays, vacation & sick leave, long-term disability & life insurance, 403b plan, annual cost-of-living increases, and annual performance-based raises and/or bonuses.
