Interim Operations Manager

About NASCO: NASCO is an alliance of group-equity housing cooperatives helping to build a world where every community benefits from resident-controlled housing by educating and organizing youth and emerging leaders to create and care for co-ops in the U.S. and Canada. We have nearly 35 member cooperatives representing 3500 cooperators.

 

Position Description

The interim Operations Manager (IOM) supports routine bookkeeping and administrative functions from June 2025 through end of November 2025. This position will work with NASCO staff to support member renewals, coordinate registration for groups to attend Institute, support the logistics of Institute, and conduct member services to co-opers (depending on experience).

 

Responsibilities for this position include: 

Administrative 

  • Financial Coordination and Bookkeeping Support:
  • Oversee financial administration of NASCO by liaising with bookkeepers to ensure accurate recording of all financial transactions, this includes providing monthly bank statements, staff credit card reports, and responses to questions about individual transactions.
  • Monitoring Fiscal Sponsorship responses
    • Monitor requests to be fiscally sponsored by NASCO
    • Monitor and coordinate Fiscal Sponsorship donations/grants to be disbursed
  • Monitor bills and communicate with check signor to ensure payment
  • Monitor other administrative emails and tasks.
  • HR:
    • Supporting completion of the Staff Eval Process by creating or/and submitting reports to the Personnel Committee liaison

Member Renewals 

  • Support the membership renewal process, including member dues invoicing and tracking dues payments in a spreadsheet and in CIVIcrm.
  • Supporting outreach for membership renewals in coordination with the Director of Community Engagement.

 

Education: Institute 2025 

  • Coordinate group registarion for NASCO Institute, including group registration outreach and invoicing
  • Liaise with Fundraising Circle for tracking and invoicing sponsors of Institute 2025
  • Follow up on unpaid invoices
  • Liaise with Education Circle to get volunteer needs and share with board members
    • Check with board on attending Institute and ensure they know they must volunteer to have Institute Registration comped/free
    • Gather schedules and key information from the NASCO Board Exec members attending Institute and in-person meeting in order to book or/and reimburse travel within budget limits.
    • Keeping track of conversations
  • Support Institute registration, logistics and prep tasks remotely and in person in Ann Arbor, MI in November.

 

Member Services 

  • Support NASCO staff in coordinating and administering member services (training, assessments, and consulting) to housing co-ops and benefits as needed.

 

Required Experience/skills 

  • Clear commitment to the mission of NASCO, including a commitment to anti-oppression 
  • Proficiency with email communication 
  • Quickbooks proficiency 
  • Familiarity with non-profit financial management, including donations and grant administration, fiscal sponsorship, budgeting. 
  • Familiarity with bookkeeping and non-profit GAAP accounting 
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills 

 

Preferred Experience/skills 

  • Experience giving virtual presentations and/or trainings  
  • Experience with meeting facilitation  

 

Location, salary, and benefits

Location: Remote with preference for candidates residing in Kansas, Louisiana, Michigan, Illinois, or Florida.

Pay: $25.74/hour

Dates: June 1, 2025 - November 30, 2025

Hours: The interim Operations Manager (IOM) is expected to work an average of 15-20 hours a week. We expect shorter hours in June during training and about 30-40 hours for the first three weeks of November, particularly the weeks leading up to and of NASCO’s Institute in Ann Arbor, MI (November 14 - 16, 2025). This position is non-exempt and may be approved to work overtime as needed. Overtime must be approved by the staff collective.

Vacation: This position will receive 30 hours of paid vacation time (approximately 7 four-hour days) for the period of this contract. This is prorated from our policy to provide 15 days (120 hours) per fiscal year in the first two years of employment for full time employment. Additionally, they will receive the 2 holidays (Independence Day and Thanksgiving) that fall within the term of this contract (8 hours total).

 

This position is neither a permanent position nor a member of the NASCO staff union. This job offer is in no way intended to imply a future job offer. The IOM is filling a need while a staff member is on parental leave.
