What We Do

NASCO is a membership organization made up of cooperatives, allied organizations, and individual supporters across North America. See a map of our members. We primarily serve student- and community-based housing and retail group-equity cooperatives. NASCO serves its members in the following ways:

  • On-site visit for training and consultation at least once every two years.
  • Assistance with development and expansion projects.
  • Regular consultation and assistance via electronic mail and telephone.
  • Connecting co-ops for mutual support and solidarity.
  • Access to our Shared Resource Library, technical resources, and sample documents (i.e. bylaws, leases).
  • Up-to-date job notices of job openings in US and Canadian cooperatives.
  • Reduction of 30-40% in registration fees for the annual NASCO Institute conference in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
  • Summer Intership Network - provide co-op career opportunities with affiliated co-op and non-profit organizations
  • NASCO regional conferences
  • Representation of student and group-equity housing co-ops with national, cross-sector, and international cooperative organizations
