Global Co-op Management Dialogue and Case Studies - NASCO Institute

Session materials from "Global Co-op Management Dialogue and Case Studies," which was led by Jeff Bessmer (Santa Barbara Student Housing Co-op) at NASCO Institute 2014.

American co-operatives are generally isolated from the broader and very active dialogue on co-op management. This workshop will give a brief overview of the global co-operative movement and its central and foundational ideas. Then we will review examples of co-ops that have used these concepts to improve their organizations and discuss how these ideas may be relevant for our co-ops.

Luther Buchele leads NASCO Institute in Song - Video

Video footage of the late Luther Buchele leading NASCO Institute 2007 participants in song. For many years, Luther sang these songs ("Come and Let us Work Together" and "I'm My Own Landlord") at NASCO Institute - though Luther passed away in 2008, the songs are still sung yearly at Institute in his memory. You may read more about Luther in the attached obituary.

"Accounting Best Practices for Food Co-ops: A Primer" is an excellent and concise (14-page) summary in four sections: balance sheet, income statement, internal control, and cash management.

The new Primer is composed of a four-part series by Bruce Mayer, Peg Nolan, and Steve Wolfe that appeared in Cooperative Grocer during 2011 and 2012.
