BSC Member Demographics Surveys & Results

In 2012, the Berkeley Student Cooperative (BSC) performed a survey of the socio-demographics of its entire membership. The survey had an overall response rate of 73% (1,256 members). The survey document, the survey results, and multiple presentations/ analyses of the survey results are attached. The BSC intends to conduct on a periodic basis in order to have more definitive data on their membership over time.

Co-ops, like many non-profits, often have their board members come from a layperson background.  While we typically use this as a strength, allowing for ordinary people to become involved and gain skills through service to their community, there are certain duties which are nearly universally required of board members.  Fortunately, these duties are common-sense enough that they are approachable by anyone.
