Identity Based Councils

Councils are spaces for participants with shared identities to raise issues, build connections, and organize for change within NASCO, their own co-ops, and our broader communities. These are member-led spaces for participants to guide the discussion as they see fit.

Each council will meet on Friday or Saturday during NASCO Institute, elect representatives, and bring proposals to the Collective Liberation Congress, which will be held in person on Sunday, November 15th.

Identity-based councils are not spaces for people who do not share an identity to learn about issues affecting that group or offer their support (i.e. “be an ally”). We encourage those folks to attend one of the workshops on these topics instead.

The following councils will be included in person at Institute this year:

  • Women’s Council (Friday, Nov 13 6:45-7:45 PM)

  • LGBTQIA2S+ Council (Friday, Nov 14 7:45 -8:45 PM)

  • Native Peoples Council (Saturday, Nov 14th 10:15-11:30 AM)

  • Working Class Council (Saturday, Nov 14th 12:45-2:00 PM) *during lunch*

  • Black Council (Saturday, Nov 14th 2:15-3:30 PM)

  • Accessibility Council (Saturday, Nov 14th 7:30-8:30 PM)

Why Isn't There a Council for X Identity?

Would you like to attend a council that isn’t listed above? We invite you to organize one! Please reach out ot Elise@nasco.coop to coordinate. Please note, only the councils listed in the schedule above are currently able to make appointments to the Collective Liberation Congress.
